A Little Bit About Us

Mark Oerther & Jackie Kahl

Mark: I am originally from Philadelphia, PA and am a bit of an Eagles fan. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University and in the process of completing my Addictions Certification. I have been sober for 13 years and got sober at the old and wise age of 21 and began to live for something greater and with a sense of purpose. I am truly grateful to be sober and treasure the gift of grace that I have been given. I have worked in Wilderness therapy for the last 9 years in NC, MT, NY, and now back to NC again which is home sweet home! I am the youngest of two sons and some say Mike and I are a bit alike. I am engaged to my soul mate and feel that all paths, roads, and seeming dead ends put us together. I am the son of the most amazing mother in the world, I really miss you mom!

Jackie: I was born and raised in West Palm Beach, FL by a single Mom,  I have an older brother and sister who helped a great deal in raising me. I am a bit of a horse nut, I love everything about them, I tried to run away when I was about 10 to an island where wild ponies live. I always dreamed that my prince would rescue me on a white horse and that I would be taken away on my wedding day by Horse and carriage. I have lived in many places including, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Maine,  I have found my home in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.

 I am a Real Estate Agent, who now works in the Restaurant business and is looking for my life’s work. I have been sober since July 15, 1999. I led a very troubled life for many years and I wouldn’t trade it in for anything. I believe that the peace and the love that I have for The Lord is a direct result of the life that I used to live, Praise God, I never have to go back or be ashamed of where I have been.

 I am Mom to David, High School student at T.C, he was a miracle baby, I have the worlds best dog, his name is Murray. I feel I am the luckiest woman in the world because I am getting ready to marry my best friend and soul mate, I met him through a mutual friend who is sober and I stepped outside my comfort zone and asked him out, I thank him all the time for saying yes.
